A New Year and the End of January

Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.

H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Hello!

January is ending and it’s time for a monthly wrap-up. In line with January being the beginning month, and named after Janus the roman God of many things, including new beginnings and endings, I started this website and blog. And while I don’t have that much to write about at the moment, beyond uploading a few packed-away stories and poems, it’s a beginning and we all have to start somewhere. I did, however, submit three poems to the Frontier Poetry Competition, so we’ll see how that goes.

Frontier Poetry Competition

I think it’s one of the first poetry competitions I’ve entered, excluding a few in high school that never really went beyond my school. The topic of Hurt & Healing, growing from pain and having hope for the future was a little challenging to write about, sort of like digging into freshly healed wounds or picking at scabs, but a little relieving in the end. They say that writing down your feelings can make them a little more bearable and I’m afraid to say it kinds-of works, or at least it puts a few things in perspective when you look at them from a narrative point of view rather than sinking into the dark waters by yourself.

But knowing that what you’re writing is something you’ve been through and that you have come out the other end alive and moving forward, is a little like giving the old you a hug.

Website and Blog

Seeing as I’m only starting all this, I’m not entirely sure what people would be interested in hearing about. So I’ll keep it to the more exciting things that happen, and anything that is relevant to my writing in general, rundowns on prep for competitions and submissions etc. I might also include aspects of research for anything I’m planning and life updates. While I know there’s no one reading these at the moment, given I’m only at the beginning of my adventure, if anyone comes back to this you’re welcome to drop a comment on what you’d like me to blog about in the future.

We’ll see what February has in store, but as it’s February in Australia, probably hot days and lots of rain.

Bye Bye!
